@Pia is a pretty girl from London who loves makeup especially contouring and always keen to learn more. As part of her experience we worked on one base makeup to achieve two different looks by just changing the lip colour. Yes you read it right, same makeup but different lip colour works wonders and changes the look completely from day to night or clean to glam.
Pia was also interested to know more about contouring. Like everyone she had lots of questions about it. Simply put, we makeup artists use light and shade to contour and sculpt a feature with the make-up.
While highlighting will enhance and bring out the best of a feature, shading will diminish a feature and make it less obvious. Highlighting is achieved by blending a shade lighter than the foundation and shading is done by blending a shade darker than the foundation.
To begin lets start with the eyes. I brushed her eyebrows, filled in the gaps with dark brown #eyeshadow and set them with a brow gel. I used pretty, pearly pink shades on the eyelids and enhanced her eyes with a glittery pigmented eyeshadow.
To lengthen and thicken her eyelashes I attached few individual fake lashes and applied #mascara before curling them. Finally to give her eyes some definition I applied a black eyeliner on the upper lash line and used a soft brown shadow for the lower lash.
For #contouring I applied shading to the sides of her nose, under the cheekbones and top of her forehead. I used the #highlighter to enhance the high points of her face like cheekbones, bridge of the nose and cupid's bow. Also, finished her cheeks with light pink #blusher.
Lips lips lips yes… finally get on to the lips. Lips are the hardest part of #makeup. Sometime they need balancing, blotting, powdering or reapplying to make the #lipcolour last longer.
Use of dark reds can make the lips look smaller and use of light colours can make them look larger. Also, lip gloss or any shine, placed along the middle of the bottom lip will make them look fuller. There is so much you can do with the lips and so much can go wrong if not done correctly.
For Pia I followed the same steps with 2 different lip colours.
- Used sharp #lippencil to outline the upper and lower lips with the colour close to the #lipstick shade.
- Filled the lips with the same lip pencil. This makes the colour stay longer.
- Applied #lipstick to the rest of the mouth in the usual way.
- Finally applied lip gloss to the middle of the bottom lip to make it look fuller.
And the results were outstanding. Red & Nude Brown colour both when applied individually transformed the look completely.
Whatever your colour of choice don't be afraid to try something bold and new. You never know what you can find.
